What Recession?
May 7, 2008
According to the economic indicators, we’re not technically in a recession, but why does it feel like we’re in a recession? Here are two quotes from Ronald Reagan regarding recessions and depressions: “As far as I’m concerned, the line between recession and depression cannot be measured in the strict economists’ terms, but must be measured in human terms. When our working people - including those who are unemployed - must endure the worst misery since the 1930’s, then I think we ought to recognize that they consider it a depression.” This was in the 1980’s. He also said, “A recession is when your neighbor loses his job. A depression is when you lose yours.” Well put, Ron.
Every business person needs to learn a little about economics, because economics plays a large role in affecting your business. I’ll cover that later.
